The Ripple Effect Short Video Contest has been introduced to attract and engage the youth sailors (between 14 and 20 years of age) competing in the Ida Lewis Distance Race. Participants (working either individually or as a team) are asked to answer the question “What do you like most about offshore/overnight sailing?” through a video essay or documentary no longer than five minutes in length.

“What do you like most about offshore/overnight sailing?” Answer this question in your own words with regard to the parameters noted below, and create a video essay or documentary no longer than five minutes in length.

Here are the findings from the above question– extra breeziness of the air, high tides, scenic view of the sea under moonlight or any other factor.  Enjoying the night sea is altogether a different experience while sailing.  As a young sailor, you get to see the numerous challenges handled by the experienced team members.  Refer to the below rules for the contest.

Official Rules:

The contest is free to participate in and open to any sailors between 14 and 20 years of age that are racing in the 2014 Ida Lewis Distance Race

Participants can work individually or in teams of up to three people

Only one (1) video may be submitted per student or team

Footage can be shot on respective boat during the race and/or on land before or after racing.

Video can be recorded using any device (i.e. phone, iPad, GoPro, video camera, camera, etc.)

The video duration can be up to five (5) minutes.

Prior to film submission, sailors must register by filling out the registration form at http://www.ildistancerace.org/2014/201408_videoandphoto.php and emailing it to Joe Cooper, cooper-ndn@cox.net.

Once registered, participants will be given instructions on how to upload the video

The completed video is due no later than 6 p.m. EDT on September 5, 2014

For students under 18, a parent, legal guardian or teacher will be required to co-sign this declaration

All video submissions can be used for editorial and commercial purposes by the Ida Lewis Distance Race

Judging: A panel of judges made up of organizers from the Ida Lewis Distance Race will determine a winner no later than September 12, 2014

Winning video will be displayed on the Ida Lewis Distance Race website and distributed to marine and regional media.

Photo Submission Requirements:

 

Submit photos of your experience at this year’s Ida Lewis Distance Race by logging into personal Facebook account and posting them on the race’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/ILYCDistanceRace?ref=hl) with hashtag #ILDR

 

 

Official Rules:

 

The contest is free to participate in by all competitors racing in the 2014 Ida Lewis Distance Race

Participants can work as individuals only

Up to five (5) photos may be submitted per participant

Photos can be captured using any device (i.e. phone, iPad, GoPro, camera, etc.)

Photos can be submitted before, during or after racing from Thursday, August 14 through Monday, August 18

No registration required

All photo submissions can be used for editorial and commercial purposes by the Ida Lewis Distance Race

Judging: A winner will be determined based on the amount of Facebook “likes” are received on his/her submitted photos (so make sure to also share your photo on your personal Facebook page)

The winning photo will be displayed on the Ida Lewis Distance Race website and distributed to marine/regional publications to promote the 2015 race
